Free Resume Maker

Hello! Free Resume Maker that is the topic of this little rant today. Well as some of you know I'm well into the thick of my job search. I recently updated my resume and I liked the results that I had as a result. However, all I really did was just change up a few paragraphs, add an objective statement and summarize my individual skills. This looks good and will do the job but I was curious how a Free Resume Maker would do in contrast to my creation.

So I fire up my trusty web brower and browse google for "Free Resume Maker". First result I get back is for Easyjob Resume Builder 2.79. This is a piece of shareware with a free trial. It claims to come with over 25,000 resume templates! WOW! That's alot even for $39 bucks. However, because it was shareware and, did not specify that it was fully functional on the trial I decided to pass it up.
I continued to look around the internet and it seemed that most of the "Free" resume software wasn't exactly free. It was either crippleware, lacked simple features such as spell checking and a nice selection of templates. Resumemaker.com looked really interesting however, no free trial was available without purchase. So I decided since I can't find a decent free resume software I would just look at other people's resumes and compare how mine looked to them.

A good source I found was the "Writing Resumes" page at About.com. There were many links to examples as well as links to cover letters and other job search resources that I was able to do a comparison to my resume. You know what? My resume doesn't look all that bad! Just browse to About.com and search for "Resume" and you will find a wealth of information that will help you get started or, spruce up what you already have created.

So the short end of the long story is there really isn't any decent "Free" resume software out there at least, not that I could find to suit my needs. However, there are plenty of example sites out there that have just about every kind of resume and cover letter type your looking for. Just google it and copy what you like to your work. Polish it up, show it to a few friends and when you get thumbs up all around you can be confident that your resume is top notch!
So I would say the overall message of this little article is, when looking for resume making software for free, stop looking and do it yourself!Best Of Luck in your job search!
